What is Encryption?
Scramble data so only key-holders can read it — and it's reversible.
Transforming readable data into ciphertext using a key. Symmetric encryption (AES) uses one shared key; asymmetric (RSA, ECC) uses a public/private pair, which is what makes TLS on the web possible. Encrypted data can always be decrypted with the right key.
